The tools to start making investments

We built Field Trip as an in-house venture capital bootcamp: eight modules, debrief calls, hands-on case studies, and workshops with FRV alumni, VCs, and operators. It gives new members the vocabulary, frameworks, and practice to start contributing to investments.

National retreat

Spend several days with the full student team, moving from training sessions to candid conversations, shared meals, and the relationships that make a national team feel close.

Real investment decisions

In Year 2, take companies from first review through diligence, present to the Investment Committee, defend your thinking, and vote on opportunities.

Real founder meetings

Take calls with student founders, ask the hard questions, and learn how markets, teams, and products look from the other side of the table.

Your next colleagues

Work alongside students in Quebec and across Canada on weekly calls and projects that turn campus contacts into a trusted national team.

Maybe your next cofounder

Meet people who can spot a problem, build a prototype, or rally a room. FRV has a way of turning teammates into long-term collaborators.

INTRODUCE YOURSELF

A place for potential

Who you might be

Our drive to support ambitious Canadian student entrepreneurs starts with a simple belief: students with different experiences are often best placed to understand and support them.

Your studies and interests

You may be enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate, or post-graduate program at a Canadian college or university, in any major or faculty. You do not need prior experience in venture capital, startups, or technology. Curiosity is enough to start.

We welcome students from university freshmen through PhD programs. Because FRV members are students while they are with us, you should expect to remain enrolled for at least your first year on the team.

Your experiences

The future is easier to see from more than one angle. We value the mix of experiences our associates bring because it helps us assess companies and make braver, more thoughtful bets.

We look for signs of energy around technology, venture capital, startups, or building things: work at a related organization, personal research, writing, or meaningful involvement in something you care about. Potential matters more than a perfect resume.

What makes a strong applicant

  • Clear and thoughtful communicator in English, written and verbal
